Swim

Did a swim this morning.

200m warm up
500m endurance, bordering on muscular endurance.
4x25m speed (approx 20 seconds of swimming per 25m, leaving every 60 seconds)
100m endurance
150m endurance
200m cool down

1250m total. A little on the light side. We got to the pool slightly late, at about 6:10 or so.

Swim

Did a swim this morning.

200m warm up
500m endurance, really concentrating on a good stroke.
300m a little bit faster, again concentrating on a good stroke.
200m cool down.

1200m total. Got to the pool a little late so didn't get in quite as much as I wanted to.

A quick note on my stroke... 99% of the time I do freestyle (front crawl) and if I am not doing freestyle I am doing kicking. I know that my stroke isn't as good as it can be and I could probably benefit from some good coaching in order to get a more efficient stroke. For some reason I have a bit of a mental block when it comes to getting help (or maybe just paying for help) with my stroke. Anyway, I have been trying to pay attention to things in my stroke that aren't efficient. One thing that I have been noticing and working on is that I tend to let my elbow drop on my right arm as I am extending it forward just after the recovery phase of the stroke. I think I do this to give myself a little bit of a break, it allows my shoulder and triceps to relax a little bit while I get ready for the pull part of the stroke. It also is the main reason for the catch-up I have in my stroke. I have found that by really paying attention to what I am doing with my right arm as it enters the water I can drive it forward and keep my elbow up which allows me to catch a little more water for my pull. Doing this makes me more tired but I think it also improves my speed (I hope). Once I have really imprinted this slight difference in my stroke I will see if I can work on reducing my cross-over (hands cross the centre line of the body when extended out front potentially resulting in a wobbly path through the water).

Swim

Swam today. Don't know how much once again not keeping track.

200m warm up
600m or so of various stuff
300m cool down

That guy in the lane was quite annoying today. I have lane rope burn on my forehead after trying to be nice to him and get out of his way after I made a mistake by letting my mind drift. I knew 25m earlier that I was going to let him pass at the next turn but since I let my mind drift I forgot by the time I got to the wall (a whole 25 seconds later)...
